JOB SUMMARY: The infection prevention and control manager has operational responsibility for managing the Infection Prevention and Control Department in providing an active, effective, system wide Infection Prevention and Control Program which consists of surveillance, prevention and control of nosocomial infections. In this leadership role, the manager supports clinical staff in meeting objectives of the Infection Prevention and Control Program, assisting with planning, overcoming obstacles and assuring necessary documentation. The manager participates in the development and management of the departmental budget, and the orientation, education and development of staff members. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred,

RN currently licensed in the State of Florida or licensure as Medical Technologist/ASCP in the State of Florida is required.

Minimum of five (5) years clinical practice, preferably an acute care setting is required. Management experience with demonstrated successful track record is preferred.

CIC is required. Must achieve certification within two years of hire.

Demonstrated effectiveness in changing health care process is preferred.

Advanced experience using PC (computer) required including word processing, spreadsheet, database applications and Internet is preferred.

Previous experience with hospital information systems (order entry, results reporting) and strong analytic skills is preferred.

Shands at the University of Florida has an experienced team of infection prevention & control practitioners under the Director of Infection Prevention & Control and the Hospital Epidemiologist. We are currently recruiting for infection prevention and control practitioner to join our team.
Shands Hospital at UF and Shands Children’s Hospital including both the North and South Towers with satellite areas (i.e. Dialysis Clinic, Bone Marrow Clinic, Burn Clinic, Children’s’ Surgical Center, Florida Surgical Center and Florida Endoscopy Center) is a tertiary/quaternary care referral center/teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center with a high number of critical care patients including extensive solid organ transplant programs as well as bone marrow transplants. SUF also has a neurosurgical center of excellence and a cardiothoracic center.
Shands at UF is located in north central Florida in the city of Gainesville on the University of Florida Campus. It is part of Shands Healthcare.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: An Infection Control Practitioner must have a minimum of bachelor's degree in healthcare related field (Bachelors degree in nursing, medical technology, microbiology or equivalent with current licensure) with certification in infection control preferred, and 3-5 years of clinical experience. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in infection prevention and the key areas of practice including but not limited to: microbiology, patient care, infectious diseases, statistics, pathology, epidemiology and adult education. Able to use Microsoft Office and perform surveillance and data analysis and able to use electronic surveillance systems and NHSN.
If not certified, will need to be certified within two (2) years as defined by eligibility rules per CBIC. Membership in Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
